Acid Heartburn 101

Resolved Question: Are these signs of acid reflux? Does it seem like I have it? Read!? 7 Feb 2012, 5:30 am

I’m going on vacation tomorrow for 3 weeks (flying there tomorrow by plane) and won’t be seeing my doctor until after. Anyways, for the past 2-3 days my stomach has been burning to citrus drinks and greasy foods a lot. I feel nausious with this sour feeling in my stomach and taste in my mouth, almost all day. The only things that have “stayed down” so far, out of ALL things I’ve consumed are water, crackers, healthy/light broth, avacado, and banana. Everything else I ate during those days (clam chowder, orange juice, pancakes, cheese puffs, etc.) did not make it and I threw up twice so far (almost 3 times). Even tums didn’t really work. If anything, the bananas helped the most lol. It also burns badly when I lay flat down (trying to go to sleep). I used to not have any of these issues. Did I get acid reflux?What sucks is my bf and I were planning a dinner date at a chinese resturaunt (during this vacation) but I doubt I will be able to handle it now… I’m 20 by the way, my stomach is so sour and burning right now. Do NOT say I’m pregnant. Him and i are not sexually active…….yet lol.

I’m not obese in any way, in fact I’m pretty small weighing in at about of 107 or so. What should I do about this? and is it a big deal?

I took nexium for a year, i want something natural instead so started taking aloe vera juice and dgl will it work as well as nexium

Resolved Question: What to do for my sore throat, caused from acid reflux? 2 Feb 2012, 2:23 am

I have had sore throats off and on for the past two months. Sore throats occuring at least 2 times a month with at least 2 months of pain symptom free. 3 months ago i was rushed to the ER with chest pains and found out it was acid reflux. My insurance went in affect at the beginning of Jan so I got an appointment in which now is my primary doctor. He said I was in perfect health and I told him the past couple of years I have been having severe throat problems and have had strept cultures after strept cultures and blood work done and everything come back negative. I have had white splotches and swollen tonsils during these outbreaks. When I told my doctor this and and about the ER visit he said “that may be the reason of your throat problems” Is he saying that IS the problem??? He set me up an appointment to go see a specialist to have an endoscope ran on me at the end of this month. I am scared to death btw. My throat is killing me now and I am SICK and TIRED of having this sore throat! The ER doctor prescribed me 300 mgs of zantac…..didn’t help. So my primary doctor prescribed me nexium, but my insurance is in a big ordeal over paying right now so doc prescribed me protonix. It seems to help with acid, but thing is i never had much heart burn. Is this all happening deep in my esophogus???? I am just all out of hope. Sorry this is so long. Just giving detail. My son isn’t quite two weeks yet and his peditrician put him on zantac twice a day. I know its supposed to help, I just feel bad about having to give him medication this early in life. Has anyone else been through this, how did the zantac work and were there any side effects?
